The Alabama Council-Comm Mental Health and Developmental Services Division are committed to continuing its ongoing work to improve the quality of patient care and the community mental health services in the State. The Division is also committed to implementing a comprehensive system to evaluate, monitor and control mental health services provided by State agencies, as well as other programs supported by the state that may impact on mental health services in the communities.
One of the Division’s important goals is to reduce the gaps that exist in the provision of mental health services for people in the communities, particularly in areas where the cost of service delivery may be more expensive. To accomplish this, the Division has developed a system of performance measurement, monitoring and reporting, which includes an evaluation of every aspect of mental health services provided by state agencies, and other programs supported by the state that may impact on mental health services in the communities. This system includes data on the effectiveness of the various programs and the costs of these programs.
According to Council-Comm officials, the results of these evaluations are used to provide guidance to agencies that have programs that impact on the quality of community mental health services. This information is used to inform decisions about the types of programs that the agency supports, and the programs that should not be supported. Additionally, data from these evaluations is used to monitor the progress of the programs that have been funded, to provide information that can be used to evaluate the effectiveness of the programs, and to ensure that the programs are being delivered effectively in the communities.
