The concept of drug addiction treatment can be broken down into three categories; inpatient rehab, outpatient rehab, and residential treatment. The inpatient rehab is a long term treatment program that provides for comprehensive care of the addicted person. Medication-assisted treatment (MAT), is a form of treatment which combines behavioral and medication treatment. This is considered as the best option for the long term treatment of addicts. Inpatient rehab programs are meant for people who cannot sustain the intensive medication or counseling treatments for the length of their inpatient rehab period.

On the other hand, outpatient rehab is more of a short term program. The outpatient rehab program focuses on getting the person back into the community without having to take medication. The programs offer a way of life as well as a sense of purpose in the life of the addict. These programs are the most popular type of addiction treatment in the country today. Inpatient rehab is meant for those who have been through various drug and alcohol treatments. There are different types of outpatient programs like residential rehab, inpatient, or outpatient detox program. Each one is designed differently to cater for the need of the addict.

The residential rehab is meant for the addicts who have undergone a long term inpatient rehab program. These programs are ideal for those who want to get out of the drug addiction but cannot afford to undergo expensive hospitalization or rehabilitation treatment. Inpatient rehab is also ideal for those addicts who have no desire to take up medication to recover from their addiction but have no desire to leave their family and society. Residential rehab is ideal for those addicts who would like to undergo drug addiction treatment but can’t afford to go through a long term inpatient rehab. There are several factors to be considered while deciding between these options. It’s important to do the proper research before making the decision about which drug addiction treatment to choose.
