“Looking for a Licensed Psychologist?” You may have heard that phrase at one time or another, but you have probably never stopped to think what the job entails. In order to be licensed as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Arizona, an individual must hold a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of a 2.2 GPA and four years of graduate study. After graduation, a person must pass the state licensing exam to obtain a license. This exam is taken in an actual medical office setting and the person must pass it in order to obtain a license.

“What is the McLean Carol PhD in Scottsdale AZ course like?” This type of PhD program offers students the opportunity to participate in a study abroad experience that will be housed in the University of Chicago’s Department of Psychiatry. The program offers two semesters in a two year course. The first semester consists of nine weeks of clinical and research learning and fieldwork in the hospital environment. During the second semester, students will take an internship in the Department of Psychiatry where they will be involved in research projects, clinical studies and interviews with residents. At the end of the two years, the student will be required to submit a final project report and present it at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Social Workers. Upon completion of the program, students will receive a doctorate in social work, an MSW in Social Work and certification from the Arizona Board of Psychology Examiners (ABPE).

“Will I need a job in Scottsdale when I am a Licensed Psychologist?” A Licensed Social Worker, unlike a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, does not require a specific number of hours of training in order to practice their profession in the State of Arizona. In other words, they are not required to have a Master’s degree or higher in any area of psychology before they can practice. However, some states require a bachelor’s degree in psychology and related fields before being allowed to practice. For these individuals, it may be worthwhile to attend additional training courses after graduation.
