Drug rehab is the treatment of psychological or medical dependency on various psychoactive drugs like alcohol, prescription medications, and illegal street drugs like marijuana, cocaine, heroin and amphetamines. It is a form of outpatient care for those who want to quit drugs but cannot do it because of physical, emotional or psychological reasons. It is not a treatment that will cure the person and give him back to normal living, but it will help him in controlling his drug intake and in achieving his objectives in life. A person with drug addiction has to undergo drug rehabilitation in order to recover from his problem.
Drug rehab involves an assessment of a person’s drug addiction, his family and friends, and his professional history in the field of medicine. It can also include group therapy sessions with different people who have been through similar experiences to the one being faced by the addict. The program also includes individual therapy with the addict and his close family and friends. Some of the programs have more intensive drug treatment with long-term rehabilitation. Most of the centers provide long-term rehabilitation to their patients with their own medication. Drug rehab is not a short term treatment option, but a long-term treatment option for every person.
Drug rehab center is a place where a patient will undergo a series of programs and therapies to treat his drug addiction, to get rid of his psychological disorders, to improve his social and emotional functioning and to regain his self-esteem. The center aims to give all its patients complete treatment including mental, physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of drug dependence. Most of the programs are provided by trained and qualified staffs of the drug rehab center. Inpatient drug rehabilitation programs are meant for patients who want to quit using drugs, to give them support and comfort during this difficult period. Outpatient drug rehab programs are meant for patients who may need to undergo short-term detoxification or to get treatment during an extended stay.
