The move from Unity Medical Center to Memphis Veterans Affairs Medical Center marks the end of Unity Psychiatric Nursing Homes. The name change is prompted by the increasing demand for coordinated, higher-quality psychosocial health services in the Memphis, TN area, according to Unity President and CEO Randy Hargrove, who also serves as director of nursing services at Memphis VA. Unity psychiatric care, a separate division of Franklin, TN-based American Health Partnership, has appointed Robert Edwards, executive vice president of strategic planning, as interim executive director of its Unity Nursing Homes program. The board will meet in the near future to decide a permanent replacement for Edwards, according to a statement from Unity.\n\n \n\nUnity Psychiatric Nursing Homes, which began in Memphis in 1963, focuses on helping individuals who have behavioral or psychiatric problems. It offers full-service rehabilitation and treatment programs in an integrated setting and employs both skilled and unskilled staff members. The facility has been accredited by Medicare and by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. The goal of the program is to help individuals with life-threatening conditions to live independently. The staff includes licensed clinical social workers, certified vocational nurses, and registered nurses.\n\n \n\nUnity Psychiatric Nursing Homes received an “A” rating from the National Association of Boards of Nursing and received accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. Dr. Edwards is a nationally recognized expert in psychiatric nursing care and has been named one of the nation’s top 50 professional leaders in psychosocial rehabilitation. Unity Psychiatric Nursing Homes was established by Randy Hargrove, who served as its director of nursing and community programs. Randy served as the director of nursing care for three years at the MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Seattle and has experience in community psychiatric care. Unity is a member of the National Association of Boards of Nursing and the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.
