Drug Detox Center in Binghamton Brings Lifesaving Services to Central NY

any contributions from the local taxpayers. Local policymakers have stated that the facility is the first one to offer drug detox services to the people of Broome County.

Arlene González-Sánchez, the commissioner New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services, thanked Gov. Andrew Cuomo for being committed to fighting drug abuse and the opioid crisis.

She added that repurposing a vacant space in Broome County for a state-of-the-art drug detox center will save people’s lives or help those who need to get healthier.

“If we don’t have the detox-ability, then we cannot talk about [addiction] treatment,” she said.

Representatives stated that there are plans to expand the recovery programs offered by the new facility in the future.

Nonetheless, the new drug detox center, Garnar said, “is a victory and will save lives.”

In the meantime, the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services provides guides with several resources and services for residents — from educational tips and therapeutic tools to general health information and prevention tools.
