Can drug tests make addiction recovery more effective?

the stories counselors shared. When a patient’s drug test returned an unexpected positive result, despite the assumption that they had been sober and adhering to treatment, a certain pattern of behavior would emerge.

Initially, the patient would react with denial and attempt to explain the positive drug test. But as the counselors explained the mechanisms behind drug tests, patients understood the process and the likelihood of a false positive before eventually acknowledging their relapses and returning to addiction treatment with increased motivation.

If further research provides more insight into that role drug tests play in clinical settings, drug rehab centers may be able to better utilize drug tests as an effective tool to treat drug addiction.
