The Behavior Health Program of Douglas Arizona was founded by Dr. Patrick W. Fagan an expert in mental health services and a psychologist. This Substance Abuse Treatment Center is a collaboration of several mental health centers in the Phoenix area that share a common mission of providing treatment to those suffering from addiction issues. This Treatment Enhancement Protocol (TEP) is designed to help mental health care providers and behavioral health system administrators of mental health programs adjust their practices counseling strategies and services when working with addicts who are experiencing serious mental illness. This protocol is designed for those who have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder or post-traumatic stress disorders. The purpose of this protocol is to help addicts overcome the destructive behaviors that have led them to drug addiction in the first place. It provides treatment which includes psychological behavioral and community-based interventions and supports the family members and friends of the addict.
This treatment protocol helps addicts cope with both substance-related withdrawal symptoms and behavioral symptoms such as irritability and depression that may accompany their addictive behaviors. It also helps reduce the risk of relapse by increasing individual and family responsibility in the recovery process. It also teaches the family members and friends of those recovering from drug addiction to become advocates for their loved one in the face of relapse. They become accountable for helping their loved one meets their needs. Those attending the program are trained to implement a comprehensive recovery plan that addresses both the physical and mental aspects of addiction.
Mental Health Services staff at this treatment facility will assist those who have been diagnosed with a mental illness with substance-based addiction recovery. In addition they will work with clients in a variety of areas including but not limited to education treatment planning relapse prevention and family therapy. Some of the programs and services offered include individual and family counseling crisis intervention medication treatment residential detoxification outpatient treatment and case management. Each of these programs is geared to address specific needs and address the unique behaviors of those who attend the program. The treatment plan includes ongoing evaluation and support groups to identify the problems that may have led to the addiction and develop solutions.
