Drug rehab is the process of therapeutic or medical treatment to overcome addiction to psychoactive substances like alcohol, prescription medications, street drugs like heroin or cocaine, and marijuana. Drug rehab is a kind of treatment that helps in the recovery process for alcoholics, drug addicts, sex offenders, and parolees. It is meant to be supportive and rehabilitative to the person. In other words it helps them to live a normal life and return to their former activities without causing any trouble to their family and friends. Most of the people suffering from this addiction can lead a relatively good and comfortable life with the support of their families. However, if one of the family members is addicted to drugs then it is a much tougher challenge.
Drug rehab offers different ways of recovering addicts from drugs. The first step in a program for recovery from drugs is detoxification. This procedure involves giving an addict a complete break from all his/her drug related activities. After detoxification the addict has to start on a long term treatment program.
The program may vary in many ways. Some of the treatment programs involve participation in residential and outpatient centers, inpatient rehabs, short-term residential programs, outpatient clinics, and community treatment programs. Treatment centers also offer outpatient and inpatient care.
