The Youth Intake and Support Center at the Arizona Center for Youth Studies (AQYS) in Phoenix Arizona provides psychiatric treatments and assessment services for young people with serious behavioral challenges. The center includes a private mental health clinic that provides a wide range of psychotherapy cognitive behavioral therapy medication and psychosocial support to individuals families and communities. Students in three WESD school-based schools-R.E. Miller Orangewood and Royal Palm-will receive individual and group counseling services individual psychotherapy sessions and medications offered by the nearby Youth Intake and Support Center. These students will then be referred to a psychiatrist specializing in treating adolescents with severe mental illnesses.
The mental health services are designed to enhance the quality of life of youth suffering from mental illness. Each patient receives individual family and group counseling and has access to specialized medications and psychotherapies. During each visit patients are evaluated on symptoms and treatment needs and families and their children are encouraged to participate in the process as well. Family members and friends also participate in outpatient and inpatient care through the Mental Health Services Program and the Youth Intake and Support Center. All students living in WESD’s five schools-Royal Palm Orangewood Royal Academy Phoenix Academy and Wright Elementary-have access to mental health services at the WESD Youth Intake and Support Center. Each student is assessed and given the opportunity to choose the most appropriate mental health services and is then assigned to the appropriate counselor for each individual.
There are four different schools located within the QES (Quiet Environment Schools) that offer mental health services to the students. The QES is located in the southwest area of Phoenix Arizona and serves children with various learning disabilities developmental delays mental illnesses and substance abuse problems. The QES serves students in grades three through eight and serves about forty-five thousand students each year. Students in WESD Schools-Royal Palm Orangewood and Royal Academy-will be offered a complete array of mental health services that include one on one counselling and group therapy sessions medication provided through psychopharmacology and cognitive behavioral therapy. and psychiatric assessment.
