Vocational Rehabilitation Administration (VRA) – Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) is a division of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This department was created to provide assistance to those veterans who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury, alcoholism, drug abuse and related disorders. The department has established itself as a national leader in providing services to these veterans. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) also provides extensive counseling services, and education opportunities to help those who have been affected by traumatic events and disorders.
Vocational Rehabilitation Administration is focused on the development of vocational rehabilitation programs for those who are experiencing difficult times. These vocational rehabilitation programs are designed to help individuals overcome personal and/or professional obstacles in order to regain control over their lives. One of the benefits of vocational rehabilitation is that it can assist with returning to school or work to complete one’s educational requirements. Rehabilitation programs are not only provided for returning veterans but also to those who have recently returned from Iraq or Afghanistan. The goal of the VA is to help these people gain a level of independence and self-sufficiency to reenter their communities and return to normal everyday living.
Rehabilitation services administered by the VA include a variety of types of services and programs for those suffering from disabilities or injuries that have been caused through accidents or war fighting. These services can be in the form of occupational therapy, speech therapy, occupational physical therapy, occupational psychology, occupational medicine and occupational psychology. These services are designed to help those who are in need of rehabilitation services by teaching them to read and speak basic occupational skills and help them develop new ones. Individuals in need of this type of service will also be offered assistance with daily living tasks, such as grooming and cooking. These individuals also receive individual counseling services and assistance with finding a job and employment. In some cases the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) can refer these individuals to a qualified agency to assist with their rehabilitation program. Those who are receiving disability compensation or benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs are often entitled to vocational rehabilitation benefits, in which case the agency will contact the benefits office to determine the eligibility of the individual.
