Located in northwest Alabama, Riverbend Center for Mental Health has been helping people in need since 1950. Currently, it serves more than 7,000 clients each year across Colbert, Lauderdale and Franklin counties in Alabama. To become a licensed center, a licensed mental health and addiction specialist are required. The first step is to find a psychiatrist with a master’s degree and experience in treating mental illnesses or substance abuse disorders. Next, applicants must complete an online mental health and addiction assessment that help determine the suitability of a psychiatrist for the center’s mental health needs. The assessment is based on criteria such as: ability to deal with patients’ emotional needs and the capacity to make assessments and develop treatment plans. Once selected, candidates must complete a clinical practice test in which they respond to various psychological and mental health challenges. Finally, applicants must complete an internship at a Riverbend center.\n\n \n\nRiverbend offers both inpatient and outpatient mental health services. Some of its treatment options include: individual counseling, psychotherapy and marriage therapy, social skills and parenting education, and life skills training and development. For those seeking outpatient services, they can take advantage of group therapy and group support; aftercare treatment; and respite services such as respite from jail and rehabilitation.
