A greenway in essence is an open area established over land where people can walk and bike for recreational purposes. Generally this open space is marked by trees or bushes to provide a calming effect and protect the person from harsh weather conditions. A greenway usually spans a certain distance in each direction. It is used by hikers joggers cyclists and people who just enjoy taking a stroll through nature.
A greenway can be formed by creating new open space by converting an existing path park trail or road or by developing a new open space. A lot of these types of activities take place during the spring and summer season. During this time a lot of parks and recreation areas close down due to the high temperatures and humidity in the air. However there are also plenty of opportunities to set up a greenway in places such as parks and beaches which are closed off from public access. Some of these places have special areas for bicycle rentals or for walking.
When establishing an open space for recreation and nature enjoyment one must consider a few things before commencing the process. First of all it should fit well with the environment and its surroundings. If you wish to make it look natural it will help to use plants and flowers that have a soothing effect. Secondly the area should not be overly congested. Lastly it should be easily accessible and safe for visitors to use. This is particularly important if the park has young children and those using wheelchairs.
