The last decade has witnessed an abundance of new research-based resources for substance abuse and drug addiction treatment programs. A recent article in the online magazine of the National Association for the Treatment of Drug Addicts (Natan et al) reported on the fact that there are now over 4100 substance abuse treatment facilities in the United States. While the number is still relatively low compared to the total number of addicts, these figures are on the rise. Although the numbers have been steadily on the rise, many addicts have remained reluctant to seek treatment due to the perceived stigma associated with substance abuse. Many of those who choose to do so feel that they have a personal problem that warrants treatment by an expert, but are unwilling to admit that they are abusing drugs or alcohol.
With the growing number of drug rehabs around the country, the need for reliable treatment for addicts is becoming increasingly prevalent. It’s not only the addicts that have to contend with their addictions; it’s also the families and the entire community. Because addiction has become such a big issue in the society, it’s also important to make sure that the drug rehab centers have the best available resources for the treatment of addicts. For instance, if the center provides a residential program, it should also provide treatment for their residents. It should also be able to provide treatment for non-residents who are visiting the facility.
One example of the type of substance abuse treatment programs that are available today is inpatient rehab. This type of drug treatment center will require an addict to live in a group house where they will be given specific assistance to help them recover from their addiction. The addict will be required to do therapy and group therapy sessions, participate in group therapy, and attend group meetings. In addition to all of these elements, the addict will also be required to attend rehabilitation classes and counseling programs. Another example of a substance abuse treatment center is inpatient outpatient rehab. This type of treatment center is similar to an inpatient rehab, except that the patient will not stay in the group house and will go home every night to their own homes and will be able to take care of themselves.
