The Lamar County Northwest Mental Health Center has been providing care to thousands of patients across the nation since 1977. It was established as a part of the State Mental Health Agency, and is one of only a few mental health facilities in Texas that can be found on the North Side of Houston.
Many of the other mental health centers are located on the North Side of Houston. The Southeast Community Mental Health Center is located on North Main Street in northeast Houston and serves the residents of Southeast Houston, including those in and around the areas of Spring, Concordia, Grand Prairie, and Friendswood. The Southeast Community Center also serves the communities of Conroe and Katy, as well as the neighborhoods of Cypress and Katy. It is one of the three major treatment centers for people with schizophrenia in the state of Texas. Patients can come to this center for a variety of needs, ranging from inpatient care to outpatient care. A majority of their patients are children and adolescents who have problems in school and other areas of their lives, and many have behavioral or emotional problems related to bipolar disorder or obsessive-compulsive disorder.
The Northwest Mental Health Center offers a variety of services for all types of people with mental illnesses and has an award-winning treatment program and many therapeutic programs for children. Many of its programs are based on evidence-based practices, and they aim to improve patient and family lives. The Center for Children, a specialized treatment facility, also offers treatment for children suffering from mental disorders.
