Drug addiction treatment is the process of psychotherapeutical or medical treatment for dependence on psychoactive medications such as opiates benzodiazepines cannabis cocaine and heroin. This includes withdrawal symptoms detoxification from medications and other issues that may be addressed. There are a number of types of drug addiction treatment available in the UK. Most are based around one of four different categories:
The most commonly used drug addiction treatment is the group therapy program. This involves the co-operation of a group of people who share a common goal and experience an array of interventions to help them overcome their drug dependency. In this kind of program individuals are introduced to the treatment process and taught how to take responsibility for their drug use and also receive the support of others. These groups may also have a focus on family therapy and education to further educate family members about the drug-related problems that a patient may be facing.
The next most widely used drug treatment is inpatient treatment. Inpatient treatment involves staying in one center or another for a period of time to address drug addiction. This kind of treatment can be combined with outpatient care by having both groups and individuals come into a single facility. Group therapy sessions are used in combination with medication and other types of therapies to address the issues of anxiety and depression. In some cases family members may have to work with the patient to maintain his or her life while attending an inpatient drug rehabilitation program. These programs are often designed to provide a sense of comfort relaxation encouragement and other emotional resources to an addict who is undergoing withdrawal from drugs.
