The Counseling Center of St. Vincent de Paul or more commonly referred to as the St. Vincents Center is located on the corner of Fifth Avenue and 32nd Street. The center was originally established in 1965 with the goal of helping the needy people in New York City. Today it serves a wide variety of people including drug addicts those recovering from addictions and the unemployed. A few of the services that are offered include emergency counseling outpatient treatment inpatient treatment residential treatment outpatient and family support groups. It also offers social service referrals and helps families in the process of separating and rebuilding their lives after a divorce or after a child has died.
Residential Treatment: The Center has two treatment centers. The one closest to Times Square is called the “Downtown Family Center” which offers both inpatient and outpatient treatment for those who have become homeless. The center also offers in-home detoxification and other recovery services that help families get back into the right path. The “Lifespring Center” is for those who want to recover from their addictions but cannot afford expensive therapies like group meetings and group therapy. Both residential and outpatient treatment programs are available at both centers. Residential treatment can be combined with outpatient programs for families who cannot afford the inpatient services. Families can go back and forth between the two programs if they feel comfortable doing so.
Outpatient Treatment: The outpatient treatment center is open to all residents regardless of income or background. Many of the patients at the outpatient center are recovering addicts who need an immediate solution to their problems. The residents are provided with individual attention and counseling. Most of the time the people who come to the Outpatient Center seek help with their addiction issues. Counseling may include individual counseling group counseling and family counseling. Other treatment services include outpatient detoxification group therapy family support groups and home-based recovery. These services can be obtained at the St. Vincent de Paul Center or at a non-profit agency that offers addiction treatment in New York City.
