Christie tapped to head new committee to tackle US opioid crisis

disregard the Surgeon General’s report is politically motivated — Dr. Murthy was appointed by President Obama. However, the position of Surgeon General is not a political appointment. Thus, Dr. Murthy’s appointment by President Obama should in no way preclude his work on addiction from being considered by the Trump Administration.

With Gov. Christie at the helm, the substance abuse commission may be able to positively change the drug policy in the country, hopefully affording more Americans access to the addiction recovery programs they need.

“We talked about cancer, we talk about heart disease, we talk about diabetes, and we’re not afraid to talk about it,” Gov. Christie said last month during a listening session on opioids and drug abuse. “But people are afraid and ashamed to talk about drug addiction.  And while they don’t talk about it, we lose lives — lives of good people.”
