Mental Health is the overall mental well being or a lack of mental disorder in people. It’s the status of a person that is “functioning well at an acceptable level of mental and behavioral adjustment.” It is a complex process because we often fail to identify that we have something wrong when we think we don’t. If you ask your doctor you may get the opinion that you are fine or even better than fine and you would know that this is not true. You may have a mental disorder. This could be caused by many reasons but it does not necessarily mean that you can’t enjoy your life and live your life the way you want to. So what does the word mean exactly?
Mental Health, as we can see it, refers to how well a person is functioning in life in all areas. There are various types of mental illnesses that can exist but they can be categorized into three basic categories. The first category is anxiety or depressive disorders. Another category of mental disorders is schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. Finally, another type is Posttraumatic stress disorder.
Mental health can be improved by consulting a psychologist, psychiatrist or any other trained mental health professional. These professionals have the skill to assess a persons mental health and can determine whether or not they need treatment and how much. If you feel that you have a mental illness then you should see your doctor immediately. If you are in crisis, it is important to seek help immediately because it will help you to improve your mental health and keep it going.
