Mental Health is the state or degree of mental health or an absence of any mental disease. It is the condition of someone who is able to “function at a satisfactory high level of mental and behavioral adjustment” i.e. being “functionally normal”. It is not uncommon for persons to have a combination of mood disorders and other mental illnesses.
There are two types of mood disorders that fall under this heading. The first one is manic depression which can be described as a mood condition characterized by abnormally rapid mood swings that cannot be controlled. The other type is depressive disorder which is characterized by persistent or recurrent depression that is self-perpetuating. Other types of mood disorders include bipolar affective disorder anxiety disorders schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder. Another form of mood disorder is called clinical depression. This is a major depression that lasts for longer periods of time. It is also characterized by a change in sleep patterns and is more prevalent in women than in men.
People with mood disorders need to have their symptoms treated by a specialist so that they can recover from the depression. Depression in turn can worsen the depression. Therefore it is important to find a good medical care center. A center for mental health will take the responsibility for providing treatment to people who suffer from mood disorders. Some centers are located in hospitals while some are located at the home. The cost for treatment varies according to the services rendered by the center.
