The process of drug rehabilitation is basically the therapeutic or medical treatment of dependence on certain psychoactive substances like alcohol, prescription medicines, and illegal drugs like marijuana, cocaine, heroin and amphetamines. The addict undergoes the therapy as a way to overcome his addiction. The rehabilitation is usually offered by various agencies like outpatient treatment centers and inpatient treatment facilities. There are certain guidelines that the agencies follow in offering this kind of therapy to addicts.
Drug rehabilitation centers offer a structured approach to the treatment is focused on individual and group recovery. This is also done to help the addict in overcoming his addiction in an organized manner. These programs have a group therapy session and the participants need to have one-on-one counseling sessions. These therapies are done for a specific period of time with the goal of helping the addict get over his addiction. There are also several sessions where the addict must be able to go through the withdrawal symptoms that he feels. At the end of the treatment, the program follows individual and family therapy sessions to encourage the addict to take the necessary steps towards sobriety. These sessions can last anywhere between ten to twenty days depending upon the severity of the condition.
The process of drug rehabilitation center is not just focused on giving the addict a treatment but it also aims to give the addict the strength that he needs to face life. This is done with the use of a variety of approaches including cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal therapy and family therapy. These approaches are combined in such a manner that it helps the addict to get over his addiction in a systematic manner. There are many types of treatment programs available for drug addicts that may include residential, outpatient, inpatient, outpatient/inpatient, partial hospitalization, inpatient and residential programs. The programs offered depend upon the seriousness of the condition of the addict. The type of treatment depends on the seriousness of the addiction and the duration of the addict’s addiction.
