Mental Health is generally defined as the level of health of an individual with regard to mental disorder or mental health. It is also known as the quality of the human condition; the state of a person who is “functioning at a high level of behavioral and emotional adjustment”. There are many people around the world who have serious mental disorders; and, many of them have no one to turn to. If you are one of those people who are living in such a state, you may be aware that there are numerous treatments available for those who suffer from mental disorders. These include medications, psychotherapy, cognitive therapy, and even self-help and spiritual healing.

If you do not know much about the term ‘mental health’, then you can refer to Mental Health Assessment (MHA) as a useful source of information. The definition of MHA is as follows: “The Mental Health Assessment (MHA) is a multi-dimensional assessment which aim to quantify the extent of impairment, provide guidance for treatment, and evaluate the health needs of individuals with disorders, such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and eating disorders”. MHA can also help you decide whether you are suitable for treatment. For instance, if you have suffered from trauma or are suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, then you should discuss this with your therapist. You should also be aware of any other conditions that you may be having, such as epilepsy, asthma, diabetes, fibromyalgia, etc. This can help your therapist to determine the best course of action for you.

As mentioned earlier, most people tend to confuse Mental Health with General Health. The former encompasses the physical, mental, social and emotional aspects of an individual; whereas, General Health is what you actually feel. General Health can also include the quality of relationships that you have; this is very important in determining the quality of your life. However, for those who are suffering from chronic health conditions, such as cancer, AIDS, diabetes, and so on, they will need to go through a comprehensive mental health assessment before going on to make a decision as to which kind of treatment to receive.
