New pediatric primary care model for teens with addiction shows promise

she believes that it’s key for society as a whole to recognize the importance of training general physicians and pediatricians on the many facets of drug addiction.    

The pediatric care approach proposed by Levy is currently being piloted at the Children’s Hospital in Boston and in a network of almost 100 independent medical practices located in Massachusetts.  

Her original approach to pediatric care could be of critical importance, considering new figures from the National Vital Statistics System revealed that the number of drug overdoses among teens has increased in recent years.

“Addressing the opioid crisis will require innovative strategies,” Levy stated.
